How much does a puncture repair cost?

A standard puncture repair costs £10–£25 for most vehicles. The repair is done from the inside of the tyre using a vulcanised plug-patch, refitted and rebalanced on the wheel this is the only method approved under British Standard BS AU 159, and it typically takes under 30 minutes.

If the tyre turns out not to be repairable, you'd only pay for a replacement tyre and fitting not a wasted repair charge on top. Full local price breakdown: Tyre puncture repair cost in Ashford →

Repair is almost always cheaper and faster than replacement. When a puncture qualifies for repair, you're looking at £10–£25 and half an hour, versus the cost of a new tyre plus fitting. It's always worth having it inspected before assuming you need a replacement.

When can a puncture be repaired vs when do you need a new tyre?

Not every puncture can be fixed. Under BS AU 159, a permanent repair is only permitted when all of the following apply:

A puncture on the sidewall can never be legally repaired, regardless of how small the hole is the sidewall flexes with every rotation of the wheel, and a patch there would fail under load. If your puncture is in that zone, replacement is the only safe option.

The repair process

We remove the wheel, take the tyre off the rim, and inspect the inside fully before doing anything this is the only way to check for hidden damage a plug-only repair from the outside would miss. If it qualifies, we fit a vulcanised plug-patch from the inside, refit the tyre, and rebalance the wheel. Most customers wait at the garage and are back on the road within half an hour.

Run-flat tyres and punctures

If your car is fitted with run-flat tyres common on many Wentworth-area vehicles they're designed to be driven a limited distance at reduced speed even after losing pressure, which buys you time to get to a garage safely rather than needing a roadside change. The same BS AU 159 repair rules still apply once you're here: if the puncture is in a repairable zone and the tyre hasn't been damaged by extended running while flat, it can often still be fixed. Picked up damage from a pothole instead?

Not every problem after hitting something in the road is a straightforward puncture sometimes it's sidewall bulging, a bent wheel, or knock-on suspension damage. If you've hit a pothole rather than picked up a nail or screw, it's worth having the whole corner checked, not just the tyre. Pothole tyre damage what to check & repair costs →

How do I know if my tyre needs replacing anyway?

Even a repairable puncture is a good moment to check the rest of the tyre. The UK legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters, and wet braking performance drops noticeably below 3mm. If your tyre is already close to that limit, replacing rather than repairing may be the better long-term call. When do your tyres need replacing? →
